Vicuñas are deer-like, elegant animals. They have protected status in the Reserva Nacional Salinas y Aguada Blanca outside of Arequipa.
This is the most stoic camelid I have ever seen. The first time I met him, he had his nose up against the wall, and was staring right at it in a concentrated pose.

Arequipa suffers from a lack of greenspace and plant life. The little that does exist needs constant care to survive the harsh sun, scarce water, and suffocating pollution.
Up the valley in Patacancha, the weaving cooperative Awamaki works with Quechua women who craft beautiful textiles slowly, naturally and rich in tradition.
